Drinking Beer

Needless to say, the most important way to celebrate International Beer Day is to drink beer. After all, beer is meant for drinking!

Gather with Friends
If you were thinking about spending International Beer Day by yourself, think again! International Beer Day is a holiday of human celebration, and how can that be complete without contact with your fellow humans? So either drag your friends out on the town, or invite them into your home for beer, comradery, and genuine celebration.

It's customary to greet people on International Beer Day by handing them a beer and saying, "I bring you the gift of beer." The idea of the gift of beer is an important concept in celebrating International Beer Day, for a couple of reasons.

First off (and you know it's true), beer tastes better when someone else buys it. Opinions vary as to the reason for this phenomena, but our theory is this: the combination of both receiving a gift and getting free beer, makes it taste better. So by giving the gift of beer to your friends and receiving the gift of beer in return, everyone's beer is made much more delicious!

And secondly, by buying your friends a round of beer you're fostering feelings of generosity and kindness; you're making everyone's International Beer Day a little bit brighter, and more Beertastic. As the night goes on, it's these kinds of feelings that can get an entire bar to break into song, or get an entire club dancing on the dance floor (and I mean really dancing). That's what makes International Beer Day so special.

It's a tradition on International Beer Day for singles to wear a white ornament of some kind so that other singles know who's available, and who's not. If you're single on International Beer Day, here's what to wear:

For the Guys: White bracelets or white string tied around their wrists.

For the Ladies: White ribbons or white flowers in their hair.

White was chosen for the ornaments to match the white of a beer's head, which is the only color that is almost universal among all the different kinds and shades of beer. To find out more about romance on International Beer Day, check out The Rules of Courtship on International Beer Day.

Try New Beers
As part of the adventurous spirit of International Beer Day, you should consider branching out and trying beers you've never had before. There are thousands of different beers in the world, and most people only try a handful during their lifetimes, why not give something new a try? You never know, the beer you sample for the first time on International Beer Day might be the best beer you've ever had.

Another time honored tradition on International Beer Day is the art of Double Fisting. Double Fisting is the act of drinking two beers at the same time, with one beer in each hand (usually bottles since they're harder to spill). Besides being fun and amusing to one's friends, double fisting has one very practical advantage: with a beer in each hand, you're constantly ready to give the gift of beer at a moment's notice!

A Pitcher to Yourself
For the brave of heart, step up to the bar and order a pitcher, then when the bartender asks you how many glasses you need, say "Just one, it's all for me." Or even better: "Glasses? What would I need a glass for?" (For advanced drinkers only, please drink responsibly!)

Children too can participate in the glory of International Beer Day! By drinking root beer, ginger beer, and other tasty non alcoholic brews, kids can join in the fun of International Beer Day without getting into any trouble (with the possible exception of a sugar high). This way the whole family can celebrate International Beer Day together, without anyone feeling left out.

Beer Related Foods
It wouldn't be International Beer Day without the delicious foods that go hand in hand with beer, so cook up a special International Beer Day feast of your favorite beer foods. Every country has their own special beer foods, and here's a list of just a few of the most popular: hamburgers, sausages, beans, sour kraut, hot dogs, fish n' chips, pretzels, pickles, cheese, pizza, beer battered fish, nachos, and ribs. There are hundreds of other famous beer foods, and any food you think is delicious with beer is a perfect food for International Beer Day.

Use of the word "Beertastic"
On an ordinary day people might think it was strange if you described something as Beertastic, but International Beer Day is no ordinary day! On International Beer Day, the word Beertastic can be substituted for any particularly positive adjective, including (but not limited to): great, wonderful, fantastic, excellent, sublime, delightful, amazing, beautiful, delicious, incredible, marvelous, magnificent, superb, brilliant, extraordinary, lovely, stunning, scrumptious, spectacular, glorious, outstanding, and terrific. We encourage you to use the word Beertastic in place of any and all of these words on International Beer Day, particularly when describing beer or celebrating (as in, "This Lager is Beertastic!" or, "My boss gave me the day off for International Beer Day, Beertastic!")
